Many Black people in Missouri are disproportionately harassed by the police as stated in the article. Police departments in the country use brutal force when it comes to arresting black people, especially minority individuals. Kansas City, Missouri is one example where police use brutal force. In December 2013, walking from his home, Josh Bills, a Black man who lives in Kansas City, found himself approached by multiple police men. He greeted the five police men who surrounded him and tried not to escalate the situation. He had his arms at an angle where it may not make him seem like a threat and also did not act aggressively.
The police had a call about a “Black man” in “black clothing”. The police encountered Bills and stopped him due to the match of the description. Many police officers do not think and just act without a thought which causes many problems with Black people everywhere. Most Black people who has an encounter with a police officer end up with some type of physical harm. Even though Bill was trying to be cooperative, Officer Jordan Nelson, grabbed one of Bill’s arms and put it behind him while he violently kicked his legs behind him. That caused him to fall on a concrete floor and smash his face. As he laid on the ground injured and not able to move, another officer came and knelt on his back to restrain him. Police men across the country does unnecessary tactics to restrain black people or any one at all. Officers are using brutal force everyday against Black people and sending them all to hospitals.
