Police Killings

Many teenagers were shot fatally by police officers and unarmed teenager Antwon Rose Jr. was one of their many victims.  On June 19 2018, he was shot and killed by an East Pittsburgh police officer, Micheal Rosfeld.  This had a major impact on Rose’s family and loved ones. They all gathered at Woodland Hills Intermediate school for his funeral. When young African-American teenagers are shot by police officers without a cause, many people, without even knowing the victim, would support the family and fight for their justice. In the article, the service was for Rose’s family, friends, and his schoolmates, however, his death made an impact on people which caused people to protest on June 26. Many people who protested and who were leading it, lived across the Pittsburgh region. Rose’s death sparked a rise of action against police officers and their violent aggression against African-Americans. Even people who are not even around the region showed respect towards Antwon and his family. Many celebrities on social media, as stated in the article, commemorated his death and were thousands of miles  from the area. According to the article, the Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. filed homicidal charges against Rosefeld and cleared Rose of any wrongdoing. Many police officers are careless and will fire their weapons without hesitation and that is an ongoing problem African-Americans are facing everyday.
